If cracking your knuckles or other body parts, gives you a
feeling of satisfaction and brings you pain relief - but makes your
partner cringe.
Here are a few good reasons why it can be good for you:
·
When you crack your knuckles or bend your arm at the elbow then fling
your arm outwards - and you hear a loud c-r-a-c-k - you are breaking up
the lactose that has collected in your joints. Instead of lactose, the
medical term is Synovial Fluid.
· This Synovial Fluid becomes all lumpy and can cause swelling around the joint and thus can become painful.
·
By cracking your knuckles, arms or knees - you may be preventing
arthritis in your joints. Any bone in the body that is broken; at the
site of the break, it is common thereafter to suffer from arthritis.
There Are Different Kinds of Joints
· Hinge Joints
These are joints that bend:-
Fingers, Toes, Knees Elbows
· Ball and Socket Joints
These are joints that move in different directions - rotate:
Eg
The top of your arms, that are attached to your shoulders or your legs
that are attached to your hips. Then there are your ankles that attach
your legs to your feet and your wrists that connect your arms and hands.
Do you remember the old song - 'Dem Dry Bones'?
What is Lactose?
Lactose
is a milky liquid that surrounds the joints. Its purpose is to
lubricate the joint. This lubrication is essential. When for example you
rotate your arm, there are two bones that rub together.
Now if there is no lubrication - the result is a very painful joint that may become sore, tender or inflamed.
Why Does the Lactose Become Lumpy?
If
you don't use the joint, the lactose will stagnate. In other words it
breaks up into painful lumps. However, by flinging your arms about or
cracking your knuckles etc - what you are doing is breaking up the lumps
and so allowing the lactose to do its job and lubricate the joint.
Why Is a Well Lubricated Joint A Pleasure?
As there is no friction - the two bones that are in contact with each other, work smoothly.
Think of it as being like a squeaking door. Oil the hinges on the door and you will hear blessed silence.
Therefore, next time you crack your knuckles or fling your arms about and you see your partner cringe - show them this article.
